Buzzday Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
Buzzday ("the app", "we") is a planner and reminder app made by Anand Tsog, which decides how the information described here is used (the "data controller" under EU and UK law). This policy explains, in plain English, what information the app uses, what leaves your phone, who helps us, how long anything is kept, and why. Short version: there is no sign-up, your list stays on your phone, and we never sell your data or use it for ads. Only Circles, which you choose to use, keeps shared tasks and voice cheers on our server so the people in your circle can see them.
1. No sign-up, your list stays on your phone
You do not create an account or log in. Your tasks, bills, subscriptions, amounts, reminders, plans, rituals, evening reflections, the first name you type for greetings and your settings are saved only in the app's storage on your phone. We do not have a copy. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. Your phone's own backup (iCloud or Google) may include the app's storage, under Apple's or Google's terms.
2. Microphone, speech and Buzzy's voice
- Buzzday uses the microphone only while you record: you tap the mic to start and tap again to stop.
- Turning your speech into text is done by your phone's own speech recognition (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android). Depending on your phone and settings, the phone maker may process the audio on its own servers under its own privacy policy. Buzzday never receives or keeps this audio.
- The text of what you said (for example "pay internet on the 25th") is then sent to Buzzday's helper to understand it (see section 7).
- When Buzzy speaks to you (Buzz along), the app plays short voice lines that are built into it, on the phone. If a line cannot play, your phone's own text-to-speech reads it instead, also on the phone.
- A voice cheer you record for your circle is the only recording that leaves your phone (see section 6). We do not use any voice recording to identify you.
3. Location (including in the background) for place alerts
Place alerts tell you when you pass an open place your errand needs, such as a pharmacy. To do this:
- When you have an open errand that needs a place, Buzzday reads your current location, rounds it to about 100 m, and sends only that rounded spot, together with the kinds of places needed (for example "pharmacy") and any store chain an errand names (for example "Walmart"), to Buzzday's helper. The helper asks OpenStreetMap's free map services (Overpass, or Photon by komoot when Overpass is busy) for matching places within about 1.5 km, and sends the list back to your phone.
- Your phone then watches the nearest places with its built-in geofencing. If you allow location "all the time", this also works when the app is closed: the phone wakes Buzzday only when you enter one of these areas or move about 500 m away from the last check, and Buzzday then looks again.
- Buzzday does not track you continuously, does not record your route, and does not keep a history of where you have been. The places found and the last check point are saved only on your phone.
- Buzzday's helper does not store your location. To avoid asking the free map services again and again, it keeps a short-lived list of places found for an area (rounded to about 100 m, not linked to you or your phone) for up to 15 minutes, in memory only.
- The map services receive the search point and area from Buzzday's helper, not your name or any identifier. Their own policies apply: https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy and https://www.komoot.com/privacy.
- The street map on the Nearby page is drawn from OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), a free OpenStreetMap map service. To show it, your phone downloads the map pieces for the area around you, so OpenFreeMap receives your phone's internet address and which map area was shown, like any website you visit. Buzzday sends it nothing else.
- When you tap a place or "Open in Maps", Buzzday opens it in your phone's map app (Google Maps or Apple Maps). The map app's own privacy policy applies there.
- You can turn this off any time: choose "Never" or "Only while using the app" for Buzzday in your phone's settings. Everything else in Buzzday keeps working.
4. The website's "Notify me" box
If you leave your email on buzzday.app to hear when Buzzday is in the App Store and Google Play, we keep it in a private list on our server (Supabase) only to send you that one email. We never share it or use it for anything else. To have it removed, email [email protected].
5. Camera and photos
When you take a photo or pick a picture yourself (a bill, a screenshot, a handwritten or typed list), Buzzday makes it smaller and sends it to Buzzday's helper to read the things to do, names, amounts and dates (see section 7). Buzzday does not look at any other photos and does not keep the picture after the cards are shown. Tip: before you send a bill, you may want to crop out card or bank account numbers. Buzzday does not need them.
6. Circles (only if you use them)
Circles let you share tasks and voice cheers with family or a work crew. When you start or join a circle, our server (run on Supabase) keeps:
- a random member ID made for this app, with a scrambled copy of a secret key that stays on your phone (no email, phone number or password);
- the name you choose to show in the circle (up to 30 characters);
- the circle's name, its type (family or team) and its invite code;
- the tasks shared in the circle: the title, who sent it, who it is for, who took or finished it and when, the due time, the kind of place it needs, and a place name or map point if you add one to the task;
- voice cheers you record (up to 60 seconds of audio each), kept in private storage. Only members of that circle can play them, through links that work for one hour.
Everyone in a circle sees its members' names, its tasks and the cheers sent to them. Your own list is never shared: only the tasks you send to the circle. Anyone with the invite code can join, so share it only with people you trust. When a member leaves, they are removed from the circle; when the last member leaves, the circle, its tasks and its voice cheers are deleted. To delete your member name and everything you shared right away, use Settings → Circles → Delete my circle data in the app, or email us (section 19) and we delete it within 30 days.
7. Buzzday's helper: Supabase and Anthropic
Understanding speech text, reading pictures and writing Ping follow-up messages happens in a small cloud helper that we run on Supabase (supabase.com). The helper sends the text or picture, with today's date and your time zone, to Anthropic's Claude AI (anthropic.com) and returns the reminders it found. For Ping (a Buzzday Plus feature), when you ask Buzzday to write a follow-up, the helper receives only the name you typed for the person or company you are waiting on, what you are waiting for, how many days you have waited and the tone you picked (friendly or formal), and sends these to Anthropic's Claude AI to write a short message. The message comes back to your phone, and Buzzday never sends it for you (you choose whether and how to send it with your phone's share sheet). We do not store the text, the picture or the Ping details and do not log them. Anthropic processes them to give the answer; under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models and is kept only for a limited time under its own policy (https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy). Supabase may keep basic technical request logs (such as time and response code) for running its service (https://supabase.com/privacy). AI can make mistakes, so please check the reminders it creates.
8. Notifications
Reminders and place alerts are created on your phone. Buzzday does not use push notifications from a server; circle updates are checked by the app itself.
9. Purchases (Buzzday Plus)
Payments are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) to check whether you have Plus. RevenueCat receives a random app user ID made for this app, your purchase and renewal history, and basic device and app information (such as the store country and app version). See https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.
10. Crash reports
If crash reports are switched on and Buzzday crashes, a short crash report is sent to Sentry (sentry.io) so we can fix the problem. It contains technical details (device model, system version, app version and where in the code the error happened). It does not contain your tasks, location, IP address or any account details. Reports are deleted after at most 90 days. See https://sentry.io/privacy/.
11. What we never do
- We never sell or rent your data.
- We do not share your data for targeted advertising, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not build a profile of you.
- We do not ask for your email or phone number in the app.
12. Who helps us
We use these service providers only to run Buzzday, and they may use data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: runs our helper and stores Circles.
- Anthropic (Claude AI): understands text and pictures and writes Ping messages.
- OpenStreetMap services (Overpass, Photon by komoot): find nearby places from a rounded search point.
- OpenFreeMap: the street map pieces on the Nearby page.
- RevenueCat: checks Buzzday Plus status.
- Sentry: crash reports.
- Cloudflare: hosts the buzzday.app website and forwards emails sent to [email protected].
- Apple and Google: speech recognition, text-to-speech, payments and phone backups, under their own policies.
13. Where your data is processed
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from yours. Where the law requires it (for example for people in the EU or UK), we rely on safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses.
14. How we keep it safe
Data sent between the app and our helper is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Circles data and voice cheers are kept in private storage that only members of that circle can reach. We keep as little as possible: most of your data never leaves your phone. If a data breach ever affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
15. Information about other people
Tasks, Circles and Ping can include other people's names (for example "Ask Dad to pick up medicine" or the company you are waiting on). Please share only what is needed, and don't put passwords, full card numbers or health details in tasks, circles or photos.
16. Children
Buzzday is not made for children under 13 (or the minimum age set by law in your country, up to 16 in parts of the EU), and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Please do not add a child under this age to a circle. If you think a child has shared information with us, email us and we will delete it.
17. Your choices and rights
- Microphone, camera, photos, location and notifications can each be turned off in your phone's settings at any time.
- Apart from Circles, purchase status and crash reports, we do not keep your list or your location, so there is nothing else stored on our side to look up or delete. Deleting the app deletes your data on the phone.
- For Circles data, RevenueCat or crash report data, or any privacy question, email us at [email protected]. Residents of places such as California or the EU/UK can ask for a copy of their data, ask about, correct or delete personal information, limit or object to its use, and withdraw consent, and we will answer within 30 days. Because there are no accounts, we may ask for your circle name and member name to find your data. We will not treat you differently for using these rights, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Why we use your data (for people in the EU and UK): to provide the features you ask for (reminders, place alerts, Circles, Ping and Buzzday Plus); with your consent for microphone, camera, photos and location, which you can withdraw in your phone's settings; and for our legitimate interest in fixing crashes and keeping the app working.
18. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
